The American Evaluation Association’s strategic ends goals are aimed at contributing to the Common Good of the evaluation community. One of the principles of common good is reached when we work together to improve the wellbeing of people in our society, by balancing needs, wants, and resources with the needs of the disadvantaged.
It is in this spirit that I remind those planning to attend Evaluation 2022 in New Orleans, to please wear a mask during our sessions, for the common good of all attendees. Although the City of New Orleans does not have a mask mandate, we ask all attendees to consider those who have compromised immune systems or care for loved ones who do.
We ask that you bring your own masks, but we will also have masks available at our on-site registration desk. Please see our COVID Policy for more information and recommendations.
The American Evaluation Association strives to be inclusive, equitable and accessible to all. We want to remind attendees who are in need of an ADA (American Disability Act) accommodation to make the request via their online registration form so that we can plan accordingly. If you have already registered, please send your request to alewis@eval.org. In full transparency, we consider these accommodations as requested, so that we can responsibly manage our fiscal resources. Meanwhile, as we re-shape the structure of future AEA conferences, we are continually learning of new innovations that can be integrated into our events that will increase accessibility and the experience for all.
Finally, don’t forget to make alternate voting arrangements (early voting, absentee ballot or vote by mail) if you are traveling to the conference. We carefully consider holidays and other important dates when booking our annual conference. However, at times we have to make difficult decisions due to limited options based on availability of a venue that can hold a conference program of our large size.
If you are not planning to attend Eval22, please consider registering for the live streamed Digital Experience, which allows you to view the Plenaries and Presidential Strand sessions.
Meet AEA’s Topical Interest Group (TIG) members during the Topical Interest Group Fair and Reception at Evaluation 2022! AEA will be not be hosting the in-person Summer Evaluation Institute in 2023. Instead, we are bringing back the Summer Series. The Summer Series consists of in-depth virtual workshops that will be held between June and August of 2023. This virtual format allows more of our community to participate in important workshops.
The Summer Series will feature interactive, training workshops with a focus on the diverse issues and trends unique to evaluation professionals. These workshops have a limited capacity, allowing for an intimate classroom learning experience.
More information about the Summer Series will be shared in 2023.

A growing number of researchers, evaluators, nonprofits, and funders are recognizing that feedback that centers the opinions and perspectives of people who are most impacted but often least consulted by philanthropy and nonprofits is a powerful tool for reshaping evaluation. Feedback provides immediate, actionable data that can help evaluators design better evaluations and draw more meaning from their results. In this town hall, you’ll hear from evaluators about why listening and feedback are essential to creating more equitable evaluation and, ultimately, more equitable outcomes. Join us to learn how feedback from the people who participate in nonprofit programs leads to stronger, more equitable evaluation.
