Hello, AEA365 community! Liz DiLuzio here, Lead Curator of the blog. This week is Individuals Week, which means we take a break from our themed weeks and spotlight the Hot Tips, Cool Tricks, Rad Resources and Lessons Learned from any evaluator interested in sharing. Would you like to contribute to future individuals weeks? Email me at AEA365@eval.org with an idea or a draft and we will make it happen.
Hi, I am David Fetterman, President of Fetterman & Associates an international evaluation consultation firm. I am a past-president of the American Evaluation Association and co-chair of the Collaborative, Participatory, and Empowerment Evaluation TIG. I have 25 years of experience at Stanford University as an administrator and faculty member. I currently serve on the faculty of Claremont Graduate University and Pacifica Graduate Institute. I am also the founder of empowerment evaluation, and as such I find free or inexpensive tech tools to help people monitor and evaluate their programs. I also find tech tools to help bridge communication barriers.
This will blow you away. I just used ChatGPT on my cell phone to translate my presentation about AI and evaluation from English into French. I spoke into my phone and the same message audibly (not in writing) came out in French. It is in preparation for a presentation to the Ivorian Initiative for Evaluation. The audience is francophone. I recorded a sample of the presentation using my iPad so you can see how I am using my cell phone to translate what I am saying about the slides on my computer (as a speaker in a webinar). You will see how easy it is to use.
This tool can help us cross language barriers in seconds, building bridges across cultures seamlessly. I realize it is not perfect, but take a look at the power and simplicity of this AI tool in your pocket that you can use right now.
Here is a YouTube video about this AI tool: ChatGPT: Your Personal Voice Translator in Your Pocket
